The needle-like, yellow to bright green leaves of dill are ideal for lightening and flavoring heavy (fish) dishes. The herb is also good for your digestion. In this blog, you'll learn more about it.

What is dill exactly?

Dill is characterized by a very narrow leaf in a needle-like or even feathery form. The color can vary from yellow to bright green. The herb comes from the same family as fennel and chervil, namely the umbelliferous family.

Which dishes does dill taste good in?

Dill is often found in sauces and soups. But of course, it doesn't stop there. You can use dill to lighten up fatty and heavy dishes.

It tastes delicious and fresh in dishes with mussels, salmon, or other (fatty) fish species. The herb also pairs well with ingredients such as vinegar, yogurt, and sour cream.

Be careful during preparation: never let the herb boil and especially not in combination with other herbs. Chop dill finely and add it to your dish only at the end, otherwise, it will lose a lot of its flavor.

Is dill healthy?

Dill is rich in various vitamins. You'll find almost the entire alphabet in it: from vitamin A to B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B11, and C. Feeling nauseous and having the urge to vomit? Then dill can provide relief. The herb also helps with a bloated stomach, stomach, and intestinal complaints.

If you feel like something is stuck in your throat, dill can help dissolve phlegm. Even against bad breath, dill is applicable.

In short:

  1. Nausea and vomiting
  2. Bloated stomach
  3. Stomach and intestinal complaints
  4. Phlegm
  5. Bad breath

What is the best way to store dill?

Ideally, you should use dill as soon as possible after purchase, while the herb is still fresh. You see, dill is difficult to store. The leaves discolor and the stems soften fairly quickly, causing them to droop and lose flavor.
