Red chard is a leafy crop that can be recognized by its fleshy, thick stems and leaves. The leafy crop is part of the amaranth family, which also includes spinach and beetroot. It should come as no surprise that the taste of red chard is very similar to that of spinach. Gourmets will recognize beetroot in it. Either way, both the leaves and stems of red chard are edible.
